Proposed Development of a User policy and User fee for the Courland Heritage Park

Key stakeholders attended a spirited public consultation on the Proposed Development of a User policy and User fee for the Courland Heritage Park at the Black Rock Community Centre.

On Monday 10th June, 2024, residents of Black Rock and environs, business owners, and other key stakeholders braved the weather to attend the spirited public consultation on the Proposed Development of a User policy and User fee for the Courland Heritage Park at the Black Rock Community Centre. The consultation was organized by the Tobago Reforestation and Watershed Rehabilitation Programme and the Department of Forestry of the Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development and aimed to bring forth an exchange of ideas and information, while engaging the community in the shaping of a sustainable and fair user policy and fee structure.

The very well attended meeting which saw presentations from the Black Rock Village Council, TRWRP, as well as the Department of Forestry, was also broadcasted live on TRWRPs Facebook platform and Zoom. It provided an opportunity for stakeholders to express their issues and concerns about the proposed development of a user policy and user fee for the Courland Heritage Park. Attendees provided meaningful input into the consultation towards the best project outcomes.

The diverse turnout, with participants male and female, both young and young-at-heart allowed for varying perspectives on the subject. Attendees boasted of the community’s rich historical and biodiversity heritage and the bounty of economic opportunities that exist and can be developed for the benefit of residents and Tobago. There was a general consensus to have significant and bona fide community involvement in this project.

This consultation is part of a broader effort to foster the sustainable use of green spaces across Tobago. We look forward to keeping this conversation alive and welcome continued input whether on our social media platform or via email at trwrp2016@gmail.com.
