As a part of the Tobago Breadfruit Initiative (TBI), a group of TRWRP Reforestation Champions from the Richmond/Belle Garden Zone were engaged in hands-on “Air Layering Training”.
Air layering or marcotting is a method used to propagate new trees from the stems of mature trees whilst still attached to the adult trees.
The training session, hosted by TRWRP’s project team, was intended to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to propagate breadfruit trees in a sustainable way.
This will help to satisfy the expected increase in demand for plants as a result of the TBI. It is also envisioned that these skills could be transferred to other livelihood ventures to enhance livelihood possibilities for the Reforestation Champions.
